AGELESS TOY

Which Ageless Toy was built using dogs and knucklebones? Thanks, Lisa.

AGELESS TOY - RESPONSE

Just found your inquiry on the site of Dr. Toy. Think you might have something confused here although I am not sure. There was indeed a very old game called Knucklebones, but it was played using the Knucklebones of Sheep and not Dogs. Rules for it can be found on the net with some searching. This game goes away back. It is pre Roman times. John.

AIRCRAFT - DAREPLANE

I've got a toy called a Dareplane. It is a bi-plane that flies around a tower which houses a motor. A thin cable between the tower and the bi-plane provides the bi-plane's propellers with thrust. It has control sticks that control the pitch and prop speed. The plane flies around in a circle and was a lot of fun. However, I am missing a part to the tower. It's best described as an access panel to where the motor and cable are attached. It also serves to keep other parts together. We recently found the replacement cable that we probably ordered back in 1972. I attempted to fly it, but the cable kept coming loose. I am hoping to find the access panel part in hopes my Dareplane will fly again.

AIRCRAFT - PLANE - RUBBER BAND LAUNCHED

In the late 1950s and early 1960s I owned little toy jetplanes. They launched with a rubberband. They were about 3" to 5" wide and looked like a cross between an F-104 and a Flying Wing. They were made of hard plastic and probably extremely dangerous, but the most enjoyable toy I ever had! They cost a dime at the penny candy store across the street from my grandmother's house in Buffalo. Where can I find one?

Its called the VertiBird and was made by Mattel. There are many people looking for them and buying them for upwards of $500 on auction sites.

AIRCRAFT CARRIER

In the Mid 1970's there was a toy Aircraft carrier. It had a string which attachec about 25 ft. away to the upper part of a door jam. You would launch a jet (I think it was a spring loaded mechanism in the carrier) along the string, it would reach the door jamb, swivel around and coast down the string, where you had a joystick type handle to guide the jet to land on the aircraft carrier. Do you know what it was called, who manufactured it, are any still available and/or if there is anything else like it on the market today.

AIRLINE PILOT - 1960's

In the aprox mid 1960's I got an airliners cockpit with a windshield and a plane directly in front of it.I remember being able to control the lights, the wheels and brining the bay doors open, the propellers and i think it tilted. It was red and white and completely made of (it was the 1960's ) plastic. This was one of my all time "coolest" gifts I would love to find a photograph at the least and an example of one at best.I tried Ebay and Google but I don't know enough of what it could be refered to search for it.

AIRPLANE - 1960's

I am trying to identify an airplane toy from the early 1960's. This toy airplane was battery-operated, made of plastic, had four engines with propellers, had about a one foot wingspan, was mounted on a stand about 6 inches high, and you could operate it with various controls mounted in the base of the stand. The speed of the propellers could be individually adjusted, the plane could tilt (bank) left and right, there were small lights on the tips of the wings and that's all I remember. Can you tell me who manufactured this toy? Charles

AIRPLANE - FLYING

I'd like to think that I'm not crazy and that someone here would remember this toy besides me. My parents bought it for me in the early 1980's. It was a yellow toys airplane that had a trigger (near the tail) that operated the propellers... there was one on each wing. There was also a switch on the top (I think) that operated the landing gear. It was perfect for one GI Joe and his accessories (behind the pilot's seat). I thought it was part of Fisher Price's Adventure People set but I haven't been able to find ANY info on this little gem of a childhood dream. Thanks. Jeremy

ALIEN WITH REPLACEABLE ARMS - 1975 -76

BILL DING STACKING CLOWNS

I am desperately looking for the Bill Ding Stacking Clowns, box of 14 figures. Is there anywhere I can buy them?

BILL DINGS - RESPONSE

I hadn't heard of "Sifo", but some Bill Dings were manufactured by Strombecker (1930's to 1965?), then later (in the 80's) by Stuhr Enterprises. There are at least 6 varieties of Bill Dings I am aware of, but I don't know which manufacturer is responsible for each, or whether the same style is done by more than one. You've got the classic Bill Dings (Bill Ding has two teeth showing and his buddies have one tooth showing each). Strombecker did these and Stuhr did them - Stuhr's have colored outlines on top of the base color - the white guy is outlined in a kind of pink. Then you have the more harmless looking clowns with 3 clown buttons on their costume. These come in regular size (4+ inches) and Bill Ding Jr. (3.5 inches). The juniors come in a variety where there is no background paint - just the outlines on a plain wood background. There is also a kind of clown that has just one clown button on his outfit. Stuhr was making them until recently at least. I read somewhere they are out of business. If anyone has any more info, please let me know.

In the 1920's, a man was watching a game of Beano at a county fair, and he overheard a lady (excited at winning the game) misuse the word "beano". She said "bingo". He decided to market the game under this new name. The church also helped the game's popularity, presenting it as a means of raising church funds. It's been popular ever since.

BOARD GAME - UNKNOWN

I am looking for a toy that both my husband and I had in the early 1970's. He claims it was a game in the traditional sense, but I just thought of it as a toy. The player would build a wall of bricks at one end of a plastic board and then pull the goat in the opposite direction with a large rubber band. Then, you just let the goat go and he smashes down the bricks. Really simple stuff, but we both loved it. And, of course, we don't remember what it was called. We have literally spent days on the Internet putting in any number of searches for this goat game and have come up with nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jessica

We are looking for a book that can tell us the value of our toys. We are particularly looking for pricing on John Deere items. We have looked in many bookstores. Thank you.

BOOK - VALUE OF TOYS - RESPONSE

This is a great question to have posted, because it comes up so often. The answer is that no book can tell you the value of your toys, although a great many try. For one thing, your toys (and this goes for anyone's collectibles) are worth exactly what they're worth to *you* -- one person's treasure is another person's trash and vice versa, and no one can put a price on sentimental value. For another thing, though, what you're really asking about is *market* value. Although most of the hundreds of collectors' guides and collectibles price guides are useful for the purpose of identifying items and providing background information on them, in the sense of providing market prices, all but a handful are generally useless. Most feature inflated figures based on the highest auction prices achieved by near-mint-condition examples of the listed items, and many, written by collectors, are deliberately misleading, meant only to inflate the value of the authors' own collections. Additionally, few are specialized enough to include all the variations and quirks for those toys, games, and what-have-you which had long production runs and therefore turned out both "commons" with little collectible value and "rarities" which command high prices from collectors. Most of all, though, perhaps, is the fact that the market for collectibles and antiques of any sort fluctuates, month to month and year to year. The best gauge of market value for collectible toys is probably eBay. Search there for other examples of your toys over a period of several weeks and see what kind of prices they actually fetch. Best wishes, Butch & Co. Baseball Games.

BUNNY

When my daughter was born she was given a stuffed bunny called Little Sleepy Eyes that came with a cassette. As she got older she always had Sleep Eyes (her name for the bunny) with her and as she would go to sleep she would chew on the end of its nightcap. Eventually she chewed a hole through it so we went out to find a replacement. We couldn't find the bunny, so we ended up with the Little Sleepy Eyes dog, which we named Junior. Well Junior and Sleep Eyes have been through quite a bit over the last two years and are really starting to show their wear. Unfortunately K-Mart, where we purchased the animals, no longer carries them. We can't find them anywhere. I've tried Internet, telephone, and a variety of stores. I was hoping you may be able to give me some clue as to where I may be able to locate others, before the two we have completely fall apart. The only information I have is: The Little Sleepy Eyes line of stuffed toy animals was available from KIDSVIEW in Midland Park, NJ, according to the cassette tape that came with each of the animals. The tag on the animals read Kidsview TM of American Products, Ltd.

CAN YOU HELP ME IDENTIFY MYSTERY TOY?

I am trying to find out the name of a toy I remember playing with in the mid 1970's and it's driving me crazy. Please bear with me and I will describe it as best as I can! It is a ball made of plastic. The top half is see through and inside are three or four smallish colored balls (around the size of marbles). There are also three or four colored "stools"? In a row along one side and the aim is to flip the balls up so that they are all eventually sitting on the matching colored stool. The balls are flipped by pressing a plastic square underneath the ball which activates a piece of metal at the base inside the ball which flips the balls into the air. Any suggestions gratefully received as it's driving me potty! Many thanks. Peter

CANADIAN TOY DISTRIBUTORS

I am looking for transportation toys, models or ornaments. I need Canadian distributors as our small gift shop cannot manage the USA exchange, shipping and duty. We have to retail our products way too high to recover our cost. Do you know of any Canadian dealers? Sincerely, Debbie Lawrence, Museum Operations.

CANADIAN TOY DISTRIBUTORS - RESPONSE

We are actually Canadian Toy Makers who specialize in supplying museums, but don't get into modern transportation toys. However, there is good news. Many older folk specialize in making these and will seldom get their screws paid for. If you go to senior's places in local towns and ask who might make them, I am sure you will have an answer (and a supplier) very quickly. John Faire tyme toys http://www.fairetymetoys.com.

CIRCUS KEY CHAIN

Please help me. I don't know where to go to find this toy, and it is very difficult to describe. Maybe you can help me. I saw it at a club. A girl was wearing it on a Ringling Brother's circus key chain. It was one of those sports kind of key chains that you wear around your neck, but it had the circus' name on it. She said she got this toy from a vender at the circus. It at first looked like a plain black plastic ball attached to the key chain. In a way I guess it looked like a plain black plastic globe because it was attached to the key chain sort of the same way a three dimensional globe is attached to its base. But what I loved about this golf ball sized black Ball was that when you spun it around, different colored lights flashed on the inside. It was as if all of a sudden the ball was wearing numerous belts of every color of the rainbow. When it stopped spinning it all went black again. I don't know if it was friction or what, but it was one of the coolest toys I have ever seen. That is why I beg you, please, I will do anything to Acquire this toy. Unfortunately, the circus left that next day, and I never got the toy. So now I am on a quest. I would greatly appreciate any help you could give me in finding this toy. Or maybe even any information on who to contact in order to find this toy. Please

COLLECTIBLE BEARS

In November 1998, we welcomed the first girl in thirty years into our family. I have decided to start a bear collection for her, but bear in mind (no pun intended), I don't know a good bear from a bad one. I have looked at Bearington and at Boyd's. While I have found them both very appealing, I am concerned that they are both made in China. Could you offer some suggestions for collectible bears, either stuffed or otherwise? Would you consider either Boyd's or a Bearington as a good choice? Are there any books you would suggest so that I may educate myself?

COLLECTIBLE BEARS - RESPONSE

There are two wonderful publications available at your local bookstore. One is Teddy Bears and Friends. It lists hundreds of stores, dealers, web sites and gives you a starting place. If you are concerned about buying a bear from China, how about using a teddy bear artist--an artist who hand makes teddy bears? Also there are several patterns available to make a teddy bear yourself. My mother made one for me; I am 40 years old and have been a collector of teddy bears since I was five.

COLORAMA DESK

I have a Colorama Desk that needs refills. I am unable to find any. I have called the customer service number (1-800- 366-9261), but it has been disconnected.

COLORED DIMENSIONAL BLOCKS

I am looking for an educational toy I played with in the mid-1970's to early 1980's. It was a set of small colored blocks in sizes based on the metric system. There were several shapes and sizes: one cm. (centimeter) by one cm. cubes, one cm. by ten cm. Rods, etc. Each size was a different bright color. My guess is that it was European or Canadian.

COMPANY - GABRIEL TOYS

I am wondering if you know what happened to Gabriel Toys (Gabriel, Inc.). They merged with CBS child guidance toys. I am trying to find out some information about those companies. Thanks, Heather.

COMPANY - GABRIEL TOYS - RESPONSE

To the best of our knowledge, Gabriel was bought up by Ideal Toys in about 1969. Investor Arnold Thaler, who had already purchased the ViewMaster company from GAF in 1981, then bought Ideal in 1984 and renamed the company The ViewMaster Ideal Group. He sold it to Tyco in 1989. Tyco and their ViewMaster Ideal subsidiary merged with Mattel in 1997. No idea where CBS comes into the equation. Hope that's of some help. Best wishes, Butch & Co. Baseball Games.

What is the best way for me to research Nerf products? Can you give me a list of magazines articles, etc. I appreciate any help you can give me.

COMPANY - VANDOR

I have been looking on the Internet for a company named VANDOR. My boyfriend's father had bought a collectible toy in Nantucket. I guess only six different ones were made. They come in a wooden box with a window so you can see the car. I think the name inside said Pepsin or something along those lines. The sticker on it said made in China. I don't know if you can be of any help, but I told him I would try to find the website for it if there was any. He would like to buy the other five, if possible. Thanks for your help, Stacy.

CONSTRUCTION TOY

Hi - Back in late 60's early 70's I spent an enormous time playing with a wood and plastic construction kit consisting of bars and blocks, rods, wheels, nuts, screws and gears. The great thing it had real nuts and wrenches, making for a real engineering experience. It is not Meccano or TinkerToys. Appreciate any tips for what this was called and if it is still available anywhere. Thanks much - Svein.

CONSTRUCTION TOY

I'm trying to find a name of a toy that was around in 1975 or so. I remember referring to them as tinker toys. Very similar in design but on a much larger scale. They were made of hard plastic. The tubes where I believe in lengths of 12, 18, 24, and 48 inches and in different colors, red green, blue, yellow and orange. The connecting joints where gray and I believe about 6 inches in diameter. Do you by chance recognize this description? Like I said I grew up with a friend that owned them and we always called them tinker toys. Any help would be great. Mike

CONSTRUCTION TOY - 1970's to 1980's

Hello, I used to have a fantastic toy building set as a child. It contained tons of plastic white frames and different textured walls, dome blue and clear plastic windows, regular plastic windows etc. You could put the pieces together to form a skyscraper. Set included plastic frames to put in windows or walls.

During the late 1980's I purchased a Lego type block that had plastic hinges at each end of the blocks. This made the finished construction flexible. I believe they were called Flexblocks. Where can I buy more?

CONSTRUCTION TOY - BLOCKS - WOOD - CLOWNS

I have been looking for a set of wooden toy building blocks of clowns. They balance in different ways when you stack them. I found them on Ebay for more than $50. I saw them at a museum store in Boston in the 1990's, so someone was manufacturing this great 1950's toy. Sifo made the original ones, and I think they were called Bill Ding Blocks. I recall the new ones having Bill in the title, too. Thanks, Kathryn.

CONSTRUCTION TOY MYSTERY

I am wondering about how to find a building toy (early to mid 1970s), along the lines of Lincoln logs and tinker toys. It was made of color plastic squares that fit together to create a 3-dimensional square. Each of the 1-d square pieces were about 4-5 in

CONSTRUCTION TOY

I'm looking for a toy that was out in the mid to late 1980's, it was a bunch of what seemed to be white PVC pipe with holes in each end for connectors...whether they were two, three, or four way, and it was sturdy enough to build things like forts, and vehicles out of that children (say...2-5 in age) could climb or ride in. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Brandee

Where can I find a sturdy crane for my five-year-old son? Ideally it would be made of metal and extremely robust. Tony.

CRAWL A GATOR

In the early 1970's, my parents found a toy which allows babies who can't crawl yet to move around. It was called a "crawl-a-gator, " and it was designed kind of like a fat plus sign. One point came up to support the babies head, and the opposite went between the legs. The sides scooped up around the middle to prevent falling off. My parents said that when I was four months old, I would zoom through the house (wood floors). I'd like to get one for my niece. Where can I find one? Thanks! Shawna

CRAWLING TUNNEL

My one year old loves to play in boxes and crawl under things. I want to find her a crawling tunnel toy of some sort, but the only ones I'm finding are huge. Laurie.

CRAYOGRAPH

An uncle of mine is looking for an old kind of crayon called Crayograph. Have you ever heard of these, and do you know where can I buy some?

CRAYOGRAPH

I have a set of Crayograph Crayons that were made around World War I if I remember right. I have the whole set however; there are two that are broken in half. They are in a blue box that slides out. They box has a number 40 on them but there is no date on the box either. When I was very young, our neighbor who was very old, gave them to my mother and said he had gotten them when he fought in the War. My mother tired to keep me and my sisters from touching them and that is how a couple of them broke. I recently did some research on the Internet to see if I could gain some information about these crayons, and found nothing. Tina

CRAYOLET CRAYONS

I recently came across a box of very old crayons with the name Crayolet on the front. They were made by Binney & Smith (the same company listed on my box of Crayola crayons). It also has 10 cents printed right on the top corner of the box but there is no date found. Can you tell me the story on this box of crayons? Were these made before Crayola? There are 11 (12 box set) crayons still inside. Partially used but all wrappers are still intact. Do you know if this box of crayons has a value?

CRAYOLET CRAYONS - RESPONSE

Binney & Smith did make these crayons around 1930, in addition to Crayola. They started out with 8 crayons and eventually up to 16. I have a box like yours. They said they couldn't estimate how old my 12 piece was and told me to see antique dealer or get book at library called a Century of Crayola Collectables, a price guide by Bonnie Rush. I hope this helps a little this has been driving me nuts for three days. Good day.

CRAYOLET CRAYONS - VALUE

I have recently found a box of Crayolet Crayons. These are a box of 6 for 5 cents. Can you tell me if they are worth anything? Sincerely Jim.

CREEPY CRAWLERS

I have been trying to find Creepy Crawlers for my seven year old. I know the one I used to have was manufactured by Mattel. I have been to (Chicago area suburbs) K-Bee toys, Toys R Us, Noodle Kidoodle and Target. Can you help?

CREEPY CRAWLERS - RESPONSE

I was looking for Creepy Crawlers to make dampening pads for my snowboard bindings. I found that Creepy Crawlers is now made by Toymax. Their site contains links to Goop. Be careful, I burnt the window out of my unit when I was eleven, six long years ago.
